This site has been realized by Dr Fabio Silvestre, veterinarian interested in the southern Italy horse breeds.

The target of this site is to discover again and rightly to give valve to what remain of the Puglia’s live-stock, particularly related to the horse and donkey breeds which in the past had a very important place in the Puglia’s farms economy.

The section dedicated to the Murge Horse is, above all, the research fruit of the studies conducted by the zootechnic historian Mr Giuseppe Maria Fraddosio, spread between the 1987 and today through a series of articles published in the “l’Allevatore” (a technical-professional magazine of the AIA - Breeders Italian Association) and developed in an organic way in the pamphlet entitled "Il Cavallo del Sud. Breve saggio storico sul corsiero Napolitano" and in the article "Il corsiero napolitano all'origine del cavallo delle Murge", published on "Riflessioni-Umanesimo della Pietra-July 2003".

The pages of this site want to sensitize an increasing number of breeders and horse science lovers so that they could properly recover – also in zootechnic selection terms – what remain of an old, glamorous equestrian tradition such as the one of the Naples Reign.

The section dedicated to the Martina Franca Donkey – elaborated according to the results of the researches developed by Giuseppe Maria Fraddosio with the contribution of the studious and breed expert Mr Luca Pastore – wants to be the further testimony about a great regard donkey breed, exported all over Europe and World as the one able to improve others local breeds and widely utilized for the production of mighty working mules for the Armed Forces.

Since some years the Donkey Breed of Martina Franca has been singled out between the breeds which risk the extinction and, for this reason, exposed to a particular protection from “Puglia Region”.
